‘Situating the Reciprocal’ is a practice-based project. It is formed from the artists intimate encounters with six males, each of whom are known to the artist at various evels, and each having experienced her previous immersive piece, ‘Point. forty’.

‘Situating the Reciprocal’ portrays a narrative encounter with these males, each of whom has travelled with the artist on her journey of creativity, connected biologically and emotionally either as children, lovers and father. Each male has co-produced an artwork in the space that speaks to the artist and into the artwork of another. Somehow they together navigate and expand the in-between, returning the unfinished to the artist, audience and self through the rehabilitated. The artwork includes a glass encased speaking book, gifted to the artist by one of the men. Her response a poem, laser etched into a reflective surface, radiating words of light. The oars of an old rowing boat reel a film forwards and backwards rebuilding and shattering an event. Boys paint walls like ambivalent ghosts, illuminated by hands that reach out across the room unable to touch. All this is set to an improvised soundscape. This graphic musical score serves as an underpainting that romances the father to sit at a table, to take nourishment and dance.
